The Word of the Lord VS. Sickness

So the question is today, with the Coronavirus spreading in our land, can the Word of God protect us from it? Let’s take a look at a few truths first.

God is the Creator. He created by His word. When He spoke His word, the Holy Spirit was released to accomplish what God wanted accomplished, His word revealing His will.

As ambassadors for Christ, as well as being Children of God, when we speak His word, it is the same as God speaking it, and the Holy Spirit reacts to that word as if God Himself spoke it.

Jeremiah 1:12, “… for I am ready to perform My word.” (KJV- I watch over My word to perform it.)

In Ephesians 6:17 the apostle Paul describes the word of God as being the sword of the Spirit. This reveals that the Holy Spirit uses the word of God as a spiritual weapon for us against the devil and his forces and their weapons. Again, the word of God gives the Holy Spirit legal permission to work what the word of God purposes to be done. It covers both the natural and spiritual realms of existence, since the Holy Spirit operates in both realms.

As an example of how this works, we will be looking at how children of God can declare God’s word and allow the resources of Heaven (primarily angels and their power – Hebrews 1:14) to come against the enemy we face.

We will focus on Psalm 91.

PSALM 91

1. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

3. Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.

4. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

5. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,

6. nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.

8. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.

9. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High your dwelling place,

10. No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

11. For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.

12. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

15. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

16. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My Salvation.”

In verse one, you have the declaration of a spiritual law of God, declaring the benefits is spending time with God in the secret place, that place alone with God where it is just you and Him and you talk to each other, spend time together.

In verse two you have the declaration of someone who wants to make the LORD his refuge and fortress, and his place of trust. In other words, he wants to make it a habit to spend time in the secret place with God, which provides a place of refuge and a fortress against the attacks of the enemy.

In verses 3-8 you have someone (a witness, probably an angelic witness, but could be a person) verifying what dwelling in the secret place of the Most High will do for those who choose to dwell in the secret place. Deliverance from and protection from the enemy is there. There will also be no fear of what the enemy can do while in His presence because he will be under the protection of the LORD. He will see what happens to those who do not trust the LORD, but that destruction will not come near him.

In verses 9-13 we have another witness as to what the LORD will do when we spend time in the secret place. No evil, no plague, no falling will occur as a benefit. Power over those who would destroy you is given. This person has evidently lived the experience of protection and power over the enemy.

So in this Psalm we have two witnesses that confirm that dwelling in the secret place of the Most High will protect us from physical harm of our enemy and from pestilence, or sickness. Because of two witnesses testifying to the same thing this means that what they have said is established, made sure, become a strong foundation in which to trust. (II Corinthians 13:1b “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”)

Then, in verses 14-16, the LORD Himself makes a promise to those who love him, as expressed by spending time in His presence. (I John 5:9a “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater;”)

So not only do we have two witnesses that establish this truth on Earth, but God Himself establishes this truth in Heaven, making this truth of the benefits of abiding in His presence eternally established.

A faith confession of the Word of God can place a hedge of protection about you that the devil cannot penetrate. Faith in the Word of God, which you confess, sets up a real “shield of faith”.

For years there seems to be records of supernatural protection in combat when soldiers put their faith in quoting Psalm 91. From World War I to the Wars in Iraq, many soldiers have testified that they received supernatural protection from enemy bullets and explosive devices when they made a practice of daily reciting Psalm 91 or wearing clothing or objects with this Psalm printed or engraved on them.

As one example, it seems that C.B. Warlock, a war correspondent in WWII, has written about miracles he has witnessed about the protective power of Psalm 91for soldiers under fire on the beaches of Dunkirk.

In more recent times, Chaplain Hardie Higgins has testified of the supernatural protection from Psalm 91 for the approximately 6,000 troops in the Brigade under his responsibility when he was in Iraq at the early stages of that war. This Psalm was either worn or carried with each soldier, and placed in the vehicles they rode in, and not one soldier was wounded during the time he was there. There are also other numerous testimonies of soldiers in combat in Afghanistan as well who were protected by Psalm 91 when they practiced daily reciting it or carrying it.

It is just not military personnel who have benefited from Psalm 91. Anyone can benefit from the Psalm. Missionaries like Keith and Debbie Jaggers, missionaries in Ghana, can attest to divine protection from physical harm by this Psalm. Biblical geologist Jennifer Guetta can also testify when she was delivered from a demonic attack one night in 2013 by quoting Psalm 91. And many other testimonies are available as well.

Psalm 119:114 states, “You are my hiding place and my shield. I hope in Your word.”

In John 15:7 we find the words of our Lord Jesus, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will as what you desire and it shall be done for you.”

Notice in Psalm 91 there is protection from “perilous pestilence,” the “pestilence that walks in darkness,” the “destruction that lays waste at noonday,” and “any plague” that would come near your dwelling.

Abiding in the secret place and daily quoting the Word of God, like Psalm 91, is one way we can have protection for the harm of the working of the devil, even protection from the Coronavirus that is attacking our nation at this time.
